Ternopil Oblast is located in the western part of Ukraine, a large part of the region lies within Podolsk Upland, relief of the territory is hilly with sharp changes of elevation on the northside (Kremenets mountains). The subsoil of Ternopil Oblast is rich in mineral resources such as limestone, chalk, gypsum, mineral waters, the deposits of peat and lignite is also explored here. The largest contribution to the economy of the Ternopil Oblast belongs to the agricultural sector, the leading crops are wheat and sugar beet. The industrial sector of the Ternopil Oblast includes food industry, machine building and light industry, the companies of Ternopil Oblast produce glass and pottery, porcelain products, furniture and textiles. Numerous historical and architectural monuments of X-XIX centuries survived In Ternopil Oblast, more than 30 settlements of region are in the national list of historic settlements.
